Durga Puja is worshiped for nine days during Navratri.

Sindur Khela symbolizes the power of womanhood in protecting her husband and children from all evil. Through the ritual of Sindur Khela, the Bengali Hindu women pray for long and happy married lives of each other.

After the puja and devotion, on the tenth day of Vijayadashami, the devotees bid farewell to the mother with tearful eyes and with this the Durga Utsav also came to an end. Even in the Durga Puja pandals, after performing the ritual of playing vermillion, the devotees with moist eyes immersed the idol of the Mother Goddess with rituals.

During this period, women after offering vermilion(Sindur), they apply vermilion to each other and sweetened their mouths. Pankha Road Banga Sammilani also bid farewell to the mother with much fanfare. Here women applied vermilion to each other.

The women who came to worship the Mother Goddess were seen in the traditional red and white sarees of Bengal. Women offer vermilion to their Mother with prayers for the long life of their husbands.

And later congratulate other women on Vijayadashami by applying vermilion. The beating of traditional Dhak made the atmosphere more devotional. Amidst an atmosphere of joy and emotion, Mother Durga was bid farewell. People participated enthusiastically in the immersion of the mother. With dance and respect, the devotees buried the mother goddess with prayers that she would come again in the next year.
